I'm sorry I haven't been posting much lately. Quite frankly, the last few weeks have been majorly sucking for me, and I just haven't had the motivation to update this. In a nutshell, 8 months of planning & savings was suddenly wiped out the other week due to circumstances beyond my control, and I'm still incredibly frustrated over it. On top of that, I have some other professional issues to resolve, and I'm not quite sure how to go about it. Vague enough for you? Okay.
Oh, and I might not be able to take advantage of my "Weekend on the Canal" package I won at Bike Fest's silent auction this weekend due to scheduling conflicts. So that's kinda bumming me out. But there's still a slight chance that I can.
On the bright side, it turns out I might be able to participate in the 50 States Ride after all! (Which is another reason which makes me thinking this "emergency" is a whole lot of smoke being blown around but that's another rant that I will never, ever post here). I'm not 100% sure yet, since I would still need to take leave; I burned a bunch of leave on my Vacation That Never Happened and am not sure whether I can spare it/obtain it. But at least its a possibility.
The biggest reason I am posting tonight is because that pesky sentencing hearing is tomorrow morning. Yes, I know this is short notice (although its really not, because its been on my blog for awhile). To be perfectly honest, I just want to put this whole thing behind me. I'm tired of dealing with it. I need to write my victim impact statement tonight, and I'm procrastinating like crazy. I really just don't want to talk about this anymore. I don't want to be that Girl That Got Assaulted on Her Bike. I just want to be that Girl on a Bicycle again. I know, whaaa, whaaa, whaa, woe is me. Sorry. I'm just being honest here.
Anyway, it's going to be around 9:30am-ish, at 500 Indiana Ave. NW, 3rd Floor. You can get the exact courtroom by stopping by the Information Desk on the lobby level and giving the defendant's name: Darryl Harrison, or docket number: 2011CF3003619
If you stop by and lend your support, great. I really appreciate it. I do. If not, don't feel that you have to. He's already been found guilty, so there's that. It's pretty much all paperwork now anyway.
So. Yeah. Whiniest, pathetic post so far. I hope that sometime soon I can go back to my usual slightly more happier self.
Ride safe, everyone.
Happy Holidays!! See you Thursday!

Sorry about your trouble. May I suggest: your efforts in appearing and enduring the process may make it better/safer/survivable for the cyclist who would have been the next victim?
ReplyDeleteHang in there. 50 states sounds cool.

Wow, I just read your story on WashCycle. Good on for getting the thug caught. It's dangerous enough to bike out here without someone purposefully coming after you!
ReplyDeletePax.
Second the comments. As someone who has been on the receiving end of a lot of aggressive drivers, really appreciate it when someone who can do something - does do something. Appreciate you standing up and taking a stand.
